Sponsorship
J.P. Morgan sponsors a number of bursaries for under-privileged students to attend university. These are issued on merit.
University of Cape Town
J.P. Morgan funds bursaries for seven students at the University of Cape Town. These offer students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds an extra year at university to help them adapt to the university environment. The funding covers tuition, board and lodging and other expenses at the recommendation of the University.
Dominican University Bursary Scheme
This is a bursary fund giving two students from the Dominican Convent School the opportunity to attend a full time university or technical college after completing Matric. These students will have benefited from one of the Dominican assistance programmes and would otherwise have no prospect of tertiary education.
One of the two bursaries is under the auspices of the J.P. Morgan South Africa Women’s Forum. The other bursary flows from the JPMorgan Chase South African Foundation Trust.
SSP (Student Sponsorship Programme)
SSP is a programme which selects children from disadvantaged backgrounds and places them in superior secondary schools. To support these children, each child is assigned a mentor who not only pays part of the child’s schooling costs, but also develops a personal relationship with the child. The programme has about 65 children. Through the programme these children are given the opportunity as well as the support they need to make the most of it. |
